Alignment (Invisalign)
If your teeth are misaligned and you’d like to correct your smile, clear aligners known commonly by the brand name “Invisalign” may be the best option for you. With Invisalign, you can fix most minor-to-moderate orthodontic issues in a relatively short period.
Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic “aligners” which look similar to retainers or mouthguards. During your treatment, you’ll wear each aligner for 22+ hours every day for 1-2 weeks. Then, you’ll switch to a new aligner. Each aligner exerts gentle, even pressure on your teeth, moving them towards the proper position.
Invisalign has a number of advantages, compared to traditional metal braces. Your aligners are removable, so there are no dietary restrictions, and it's easier to care for your teeth. They’re also completely invisible when worn and will not affect your speech, so Invisalign is a great choice for older adults who would prefer not to wear braces.
The treatment time is shorter, too. Most patients require about 20-24 sets of aligners to correct their smile, so the average treatment time is just under a year. In contrast, braces usually take somewhere between 18-36 months of treatment.
